Rolling Stones cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono was named the top magazine cover to appear since 1965. The image was photographed by renowned celebrity portraitist Annie Leibovitz mere hours before Lennon was shot on December 8, 1980. The photo was eventually used on the cover of Rolling Stones tribute issue to Lennon on January 22, 1981.
I think this is my favorite photo because it just shows them being happy together. The lighting around them is perfect it shows their true emotions. The lights are dimmed down and he is naked which means that they are comfortable around each other. This picture is beautiful and i like that they made this the cover after his death.

Magazine Cover Introduction

The 5 things that I would think about when I'm designing my magazine cover are
1)Emotional Irresistible
2)Arousing Curiosity
3)Efficient, fast, easy to scan
4)The screen is the wrong size no matter, how big it is.
5)It is virtual

Lytro Warm-Up

1. What did you see happen when you clicked on the photo? Where you clicked is where it would focus.
2. How does this new camera work? It captures the pictures as if you were actually there.
3. What do you think a photographer would have to know about to take this kind of photo (remember its a point-and-shoot, so its full manual mode, what do you need to know about) You would need to know how to focus on your own.
4. Is it worth the money? I would definitely buy this camera if I had the money.

Shortlist Warm-up

I like this picture because the colors bring a sense of happiness.

I like this picture because of the colors and the way the sky is formed.

The monkey looks like he is focusing or thinking about something important to him.

I like this picture because the background makes her stand out.

I like this picture because it shows him in action.

I like this picture because everything is blurry and the only thing in focus is the bike.

I like this picture because their emotions are standing out and you can tell they are happy.

I like this picture because he is in the middle of the air.

I like this picture because he looks calm and relaxed as the water hits him.

I like the texture of the picture because of the spirals.

Self Portrait and Portraits Part II

1. Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.
2. Use a mirror! It seems so obvious, but how to use mirrors is important, too – take it down from the wall, and experiment!
3.Have fun with it. Be sexy. Be yourself. Be awesome. Be different. Be creative. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That’s part of the point, after all.
Environmental Portrait
I like this photo because i am a drummer as well.
I like this picture because he is on the side of a mountain.

Photography self portrait
I like this picture because he looks like he is ready for action.

I like this picture because it shows him actually taking the picture.
Casual Portrait
I like this picture because she is just being herself.

I like this picture because it brings out her personality.
I want to take a picture of myself using a tripod. I want to be centered in the middle of the photograph when the picture is taken. I think I want to be on the stage in the theater, Posing in different positions. I want to take a lot of pictures at once and see which one comes out the best.

Portraits and Self-Portraits - Start Looking

I really like this picture because I feel like there is a lot of meaning to this picture. I like how he has disguised himself. He looks like his is thinking about something, or somebody.

I like this picture because everything is all jumbled up. It shows that there is a purpose for why the picture is arranged in this certain way. I like the way the pictures were organized.
I want to take a picture of myself in a creative way.

Ethics in Fashion Photography

1. List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer.
Her acne goes away.
Her eyes get bigger.
Her neck becomes longer.
Her eyebrows perk up and get darker.
They fix her hair.

2. Is it ethically acceptable to change a person's appearance like this in a photo? Why or why not?
I believe it is unethical because it is not the true persons apperance.

3. Are there circumstances in which it would be more ethically wrong to do this type of manipulation?
If there was a singer who was fat but they made her look skinny in videos and pictures, because people thought she was to fat.
4. What types of changes are OK, and what aren't?
OK=Making your eyes a different color, or Making your lips a different color.
Bad=Making yourself skinny, or Making your body more physically attractive.
5. Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism.
Fashion photography makes women and men look more physically attractive, while photojournalism keeps people looking the same that they are.
6. What relationship does each type of photography have to reality, and how does this affect the ethical practice of each? Photoshop makes people fake. If people use that to make themselves look beautiful that is wrong. You are lying to yourself and others. I feel like that is horrible to do to yourself. Just accept the way you are.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

1)A. Summarize the main points of the story in 1-4 sentences.
Photographers are manipulating photographs and are getting fired for it.
B. Explain why you think this type of photo editing is unethical or acceptable.
I think it is unethical because it is not the truth. The photos that are manipulated are lies that make you more interested.
2)A. Post the manipulation that you think was the most unethical, and explain why you think it was unethical. If you do not know what the word ethic or unethical means, look them up on the internet. It is very important you know what those two words mean.

I think this is unethical because its not the truth. They never debated.
B. Post the manipulation that you consider the least unethical, and explain why you think it is not as bad as others.

I don't think the manipulation on this photo is bad because all they did was paste a head on another body.

National Geographic Warm-up

1. Post your favorite photo.

2. Tell me why this is your favorite photo (write at least 3 sentences)
I've always been fascinated with these kinds of photography. It is a walcanoe eruption with a thunderstorm going on, and I believe there is a tornado forming from the smoke of the valcanoe. I've always wanted to take a picture like this.

3. Think about your world, what photo would you take to submit to this photo contest?
I want to submit a highspeed picture of a bubble popping.

Abandoned Theme Parks

1. Tell me which amusement park featured in the two articles that you would like to visit and take your camera along and what about that park made you want to go there.
Takakanonuma Greenland, Hobara, Japan
2. Post one photo from that park. You may use the photos from the link, or you can google an entirely new photo. I would prefer to see a photo of the park in disrepair and not a photo of it when it was still operating.

3. Think of at least FIVE other unusual places you think would be of interest to photographers. List them.
A)Haunted House
B)Cemetery
C)Inside A Volcanoe
D)Rainforest
E)Bottom Of The Ocean
4. Use google or another search engine to research ONE of your five places and see if anyone has already started documenting that place. If you find that someone has already started - post at least one photo of their work.

5. Write a paragraph about why you think that it would be fun to document that location. Tell me what interests you about that place and what kind of photos you could expect to take there.
I want to take pictures of the bottom of the ocean because not alot of people know what is down there. I want to see if i can capture a photo of an unknown fish and be the first one to discover it. I would try to see if i can find an abandoned ship at the bottom of the ocean.
6. Tell me what it would take for you to go and take photos at your location. What would you need as far as equipment goes, travel plans, expenses you might encounter and what laws you would have to take into consideration to take photos at your spot.
I would need some oxygen tanks, if I want to go far i would need a submarine because the pressure would blow up my oxygen tank and i would die. I feel like it is a big risk but it is worth taking.

American Soldier slide show and captions

A. What is the most powerful image from the slideshows? Why?
When Ian's mother is crying, because he enlisted and was accepted.

B. What sequence of photographs is the most powerful? Why?
I believe that the coming home sequence was the most powerful, because there were so many emotions with the families and the Marines.

C. How do the images work together to tell a story?
They tell a story by saying the everyone is happy for them, and that they are happy that they came back alright.

A. For the photos in which Ian is the main subject of the photos, in what tense are the verbs usually written?
Most of the photos are based on a present tense verb.

Funny Captions

The bird pooped on the little asian boy while he was walking around the park. The asian boy was thinking to himself "Why is this bird going to crap on me!".
Jimmy was acting like he was riding a bike that is painted on the street. Jimmy said "Hell yeah, punks. Check out my sweet ride."
This is billy after is horrible hair cut at super cuts. I told him that it looks like they grabed a weed wacker and cut his hair with that, and it also looks like that person was blind.

Cool Video

The part where the guy starts breakdancing was the coolest part in the whole video. I would like to see some more hip hop dance in the video. I think that the maker of the video should not shake the camera as much.

Instagram Phone Photography

1. What theme that we could take here at school could we do a series of these panels to place around the school? We should have it represent something, or have a meaning that most people would understand.
2. Should we use phones only, or should we open it up to our regular cameras for those people that don't have camera phones?
I think we should let people choose what feels more comfortable to them.

3. Where would you want to put the mural on campus? I would put the mural on the side of the gym where people park their cars.

HDR Photography

1. What do you have to do on the camera to make this type of photo?
You have to take multiple standard photographs while using exposure bracketing.

2. Look up a Canon T3 on google and tell me if it has the ability to shoot bracketed photos?
The Canon T3 does have the ability to shoot bracketed photos.

3. Is there a place on campus we could take a series of photos like this?
We can take pictures in the front of the school.
4. Do a google image search for HDR photos and find your favorite, post it on your blog, tell me why you picked that photo and then tell me what techniques (rules of photography) the photographer used.
I picked the photo because I really like the setting and the focus on the Eifel Tower. The photographer used simplicity in the photograph.

Great Black And White Photographers Part 3

Jerry Uelsmann

1) I really like the way the Jerry Uelsmann manipuilates his photos, and the setting the he uses in his photographs is amazing. The amount of focus he uses in each of his photos is so great. The angles that he has with his photos is great, I want to learn how to take pictures like him. He is by far my top favorite photographers.

I see... A man walking toward a door.
I smell... the trees that are surronding the man.
I hear... The birds in the trees.
I taste... The water that the man is walking in.
I feel... The water on my feet going up my leg.
I see... The sky where the ceiling is supposed to be.
I smell... The flowers on the dining table.
I hear... I hear the wind blowing.
I taste... The water that is on the dining table.
I feel...The chilled air rushing down my spine

Fixed Photo Shoot Post Shoot Reflection

1. What did you learn about the camera when you took these photos? I learned that different ISO requires different shutter speed.

Look at the photos you took, they are located here:
Jstudents > (your period) > TRIAL PRACTICE SHOOT > (folder with your name on it).
Make sure you view the photos as Extra Large Icons to see them fully.

2. What do you notice about all the photos and the way they look?
The last photo of each F-Stop was extremly dark.
3. Can you tell the difference between each ISO? Explain how.
Most of ISO 100 was really dark. While ISO 800 started at light and ended dark.

4. What does this tell you about ISOs and what it does when you change it when you take pictures.
You change the ISO when you are in a different area.
5. What about focus? Can you see a difference in the photos? Tell me what differences and similarities you see.
The first picture is always blurry when the ISO is 800, but the focus sharpens up after the second photo.
6. Post the best photo you took on your blog. Make sure to label the following things: ISO, Shutter Speed, F-stop, Distance, Focal Length, Lighting.

ISO 800, 1/30 sec, F4.5, 10ft, Bright

7. What do you need to concentrate on when you go out to shoot next time when you have to shoot in Manual setting?
I have to concentrate on the focus when I shoot in a Manual setting.

ISO

 ISO 200
 ISO 3200
ISO 6400

1. What are the advantages of shoot at a higher ISO at a sporting event like basketball or a night football game? You can capture the moment when the person scores no matter how fast because it will freeze the motion.
2. What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO? When there is a lot of light then use low ISO so you can capture the most detail.
3. What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO? Use high ISO when there isn't much light so you can freeze the motion.
4. At the camera near you, please tell me what ISO's are available on your camera? Auto, ISO 100- 6400

Shutter Speed

Fast Shutter Speed

Slow Shutter Speed

1. If you were assigned to shoot at Blue and Gold night, which will be next month, what shutter speeds do you think you would have to shoot at the following events that night I would like you to answer the question for the following two situations:

At the beginning while the sun is still partially up and the courtyard has reasonable light
a.) the dunking booth- 250 to 350
b.) the food eating contest- 200 to275
c.) the rock climbing wall- 250 to 350
d.) someone working at a booth- 250 to 300
e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle- 250 to 350
f.) the Diamonds performance- 250 to 350

Towards the end when there is no sun and has gotten dark enough that you can't see from one end of the courtyard to the other.
a.) the dunking booth- 150-200
b.) the food eating contest- 150-200
c.) the rock climbing wall- 150-200
d.) someone working at a booth- 150-200
e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle- 150-200
f.) the Diamonds performance- 150-200

2. List the three settings your camera has regarding setting shutter speed (these are found at #5 on the Shutter Speed website. Explain how each works - DO NOT COPY AND PASTE, use your own words.
Aperture- Makes a certain area of the photo sharper than the others.
ISO- Helps obtain the correct amount of exposure.
3. With the camera near you, what are the shutter speeds available to you on that camera? You will have to turn the camera on to determine this - hopefully you can figure out what setting to put the camera on to determine the answer to this question. 1/4000 to 1/60 sec., X-sync at 1/200 sec. 1/4000 to 30 sec., Bulb (Total shutter speed range. Available range varies by shooting mode.) Settable in 1/3- or 1/2-stop increments.

Aperture, how do they all work?

F/2.8

F/16

1. What part of the body should we closely relate aperture? The Eye

2. Finish this sentence - the smaller the Aperture the larger the F number, the higher the Aperture the smaller the F number.

3. In your own words tell me how aperture impacts Depth of Field? It makes the area of the image sharp.

4. With the camera near you - tell me the F stops available on the lens currently attached. F5.0
